How a Decision Blessed the World with Music

In 1958 a pregnant mother went to the hospital with severe abdominal pain.  A diagnosis of acute appendicitis was made and surgery was the obvious best option.

It can be a formidable challenge to anesthetize and do surgery on a pregnant patient, especially non-obstetric surgery. Every time I face such a case, I am well aware that I must take care of two patients, and their lives and well-being are equally important to me. The stakes are increased not only because there are two individuals under my care, but because pregnancy increases the anesthetic risk for the mother significantly.

Image how much more difficult this situation was in 1958, when surgical and anesthetic technique was not nearly as developed as today!

At the time of surgery, the young mother-to-be was advised to abort her baby due to the risk of developmental defects as a result of surgery and anesthesia. But contrary to medical advice, the mom trusted God and decided to keep the baby in the hopes things will work out alright.

She gave birth to a boy who had congenital glaucoma, but who was otherwise healthy.  He had decreased vision, and following some trauma during a football game he lost his vision at age 12.

But this boy was special for a different reason. He was blessed with an unbelievable talent. He had and continues to have the voice of an angel.

During a concert he thanked his mother, Edi, who made the right decision to allow him to live so he can bless the world with the common grace of beautiful music.  He ended up selling over 70 million records, and his music is well-loved throughout the world.

That musician’s name is Andrea Bocelli.

Children: Between Life and Death

As a father of three young children I shutter when I read things like this in the Bible.

“They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to burn their sons and daughters in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind.”  Jer 7:31

“And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matter that you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them?”  Ez 16:20-21

“And they burned their sons and their daughters as offerings and used divination and omens and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.”  2 Kings 17:17

So great was the idolatry of Israel that they have resorted to child sacrifices to appease Molek and other gods of the nations surrounding Israel. How can a parent bring themselves to the point of placing their small child on the outstretched arms of a white-hot bronze statue of Molek that has been pre-heated in fire?  The child would be roasted alive, perhaps catching fire immediately upon contact with the white-hot metal.

Some say these claim are an invention of Jewish and Christian imagination and that there is no concrete evidence for child sacrifice in the ancient Middle East.

Wrong!

Archeological discoveries of cremated bodies of hundreds of children, baby lambs and goats at a Carthaginian burial site provides substantial evidence for child sacrifice by fire.  The Phoenicians have been known to worship deities who demanded child sacrifice in exchange for future fertility.

Dear readers, Molek continues to demand payment even today.  The US has aborted in excess of 50 million unborn babies since 1973 and just last week, Iowa Democrats lifted up prayers to Molek in this video:

The abomination of abominations is continuing today in the slaughter of the unborn.  They are a helpless third-party with no representation as two other parties (mother and abortionist) independently make a decision for their demise.

As Christians, we must continue to point to this injustice and pray that the Holy Spirit would open eyes and minds to see the priceless beauty of life.

Simple Question, Is Abortion Morally Wrong?

Dear Delight in Truth readers, please glance at the above chart and be shocked.

Be amazed that professing Christians can hold neutral and perhaps even favorable views with respect to the abomination of abortion.

The Pew Research Center did telephone interviews in March/April 2013 with a random sample of 4,006 US adults and asked them various questions about controversial matters.  On abortion, 49% of Americans believe it is morally wrong with a few percentage points higher among women than men.

The statistics get interesting when broken down by race and religion (denomination of Christianity).

As expected, evangelicals (Baptists, Pentecostals, Charismatics, some Reformed, nondenominationals) view abortion as morally wrong in high numbers.  But 25% of them still view it as morally neutral or right despite the fact that evangelical churches overwhelmingly preach the pro-life position.

The most disappointing statistic is among white mainline Protestants (some Lutherans, United Methodist Church, Quakers, Presbyterian USA, United Church of Christ, Episcopalians).  Some of these churches also accept pastors who actively practice the homosexual lifestyle.

The disregard for life has become an abhorrent disease in some of these apostate churches.

How are we better than those in China where a camera captured a 2-year-old girl getting run over by two trucks and 18 people skirted around her while she lay bleeding and flailing?  One may say that this a stretch of a comparison, but I can attest that the unborn baby opens her mouth and SCREAMS in pain as limbs are torn off during abortion, and abortion is no accident like the trucks running over the Chinese girl.

The apathy towards life is becoming more prominent as we are approaching the end of the age.  We are reminded by Paul in 1 Timothy 4:1 that teaching, doctrines, positions and propaganda that are against God (and His Spirit Who is the Spirit of Life – Romans 8)  will become increasingly common:

“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons”

To have people who think of themselves as children of God while holding anti-life positions is nothing short of demonic.

May God awaken his true children to realize the precious gift of life.

Jesus Can Forgive Even the Sin of Abortion

Jesus can forgive in fact any sin if the sinner repents.

As I review my patient’s surgical histories, I come across a high percentage of women who have had at least one abortion.  Many of them are remorseful knowing they extinguished a life, while others would not have a problem wearing a “I had an abortion” t-shirt at a pro-choice rally.

The following comment was left on my blog as a response to one of Delight in Truth’s most popular articles “Face to Face With the Reality of Abortion” (here) .  It comes  from a Christian woman who had an abortion in her youth.  It is an uplifting message of repentance and redemption.  She is an example that the blood of Christ can cover any sin, even one as horrific as abortion.  Her blog The Narrowing Path is here.

“For those who have posed the question…if you want to know how a woman could do such a thing [abort her baby], you could ask one directly. Some of us are more than willing to be honest about our experience.

It is one of the most horrendous things a woman can go through, and only the Lord himself can heal a person from the trauma of it. I know, I had one when I was a young adult. At the time, I was spiraling into a breakdown, and couldn’t even process the information about my “options”. I saw none, and with terrible dread every step of the way, went through with it, knowing it was an abominable thing to do, as my mum held my hand and bid farewell to her first grandchild.

I have wept more than I could have ever imagined over this experience, and it certainly was very poignant when my first son was born a decade later. My two children are such an undeserved gift from the Lord, given the fact that I killed my first child.

I share my story sometimes, as a support to others, and also to remind people who even Christians can backslide into terrible sinning and find themselves in this situation.

There are options, and as Christians, abortion is not one of them. It is humbling when you look at the ten commandments and have to admit to all of them, murder included. Thankfully we have a merciful and gracious God, who washes us clean with the blood of his precious Son.

The Lord has now healed me from that trauma, and forgiven me for that heinous sin. I pray that we can show the same compassion to others who have been through similar situations, without ever condoning the practice at any stage in a pregnancy.”

Medical Miracle in Congress

Jaime Herrera Beutler is a US congresswoman, and she is a Christian and a pro-life hero.

The 34-year-old congresswoman gave birth two weeks ago to a baby with Potter’s syndrome, a baby who should be dead, but miraculously is alive.

During her pregnancy it was discovered that the baby’s kidneys were not developing and the baby was not producing urine.  Such a condition is not compatible with life because without urine production, there is no amniotic fluid, and without amniotic fluid the lungs will not develop.

If one consults an obstetrics textbook, one will see that Potter’s syndrome is basically an absolute indication for aborting the baby.   There is no way around it since the baby cannot survive without the renal and pulmonary systems.

That is what the medical textbook says.

But Herrera Beutler follows a different textbook.

One that says that the “fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16)

Following experimental intrauterine saline infusions, Herrera Beutler gave birth to a baby with normal lungs!  In a recent picture, the baby is seen without ventilatory or oxygen support.  She will receive peritoneal dialysis until she can receive a kidney transplant and have a shot at normal development.

The congresswoman and her family believed in the sanctity of life and they were rewarded for putting their faith in God.

She said: “We are grateful to the thousands who joined us in praying for a miracle. But most of all, we are grateful to God for answering those prayers.”

The progressives will attack her for her godly decision against abortion.

But God has rewarded her courage with a beautiful daughter.

More Than Just a Late-Term Abortion Ban in Texas

After developments that featured efforts to protect life but also elements of spiritual warfare, the Texas governor is going to sign the 20 week abortion ban into law.

We saw the worst that the pro-abortion feminist agenda had to offer when their protesters were chanting “Hail Satan”  while Christian pro-lifers were singing “Amazing Grace.”  It was a classic case of spiritual warfare.  We got a glimpse of the spiritual battle going on in the heavenly realms.

It is absolutely shameful to list the items confiscated by law enforcement from anti-life protesters trying to get in the Texas legislature: jars of urine and excrement among other things meant to be thrown at pro-life senators. How low can these human beings go to continue their manic support of killing the unborn?

The Texas law that limits abortions at a maximum of 20 weeks gestational age is brilliant because it does much more than just set a gestational age after which it is illegal to abort.

It will indirectly close about 35 abortion clinics.  Here’s how:

  1. The law will require all abortion clinics to meet the standards required of surgery centers.  This is absolutely critical part of the law.  Many abortion clinics do not have surgery-center privileges even though an abortion IS a surgical procedures.  This requirement alone will make these places safer, but will also cause many of them to close down for a long time.  In California for example, the process to open a surgery center can take as long as two years and it is very costly.  Emergency medications and equipment alone can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and many of these expensive medications (ie. the ones used to treat malignant hyperthermia) have to be renewed periodically.
  2. Abortionists are now required to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals (30 miles), automatically closing any abortion clinic outside of this radius.
  3. Abortionists are required to administer the “chemical” abortion drug RU486 in person, placing another barrier in the abortion process.

Delight in Truth feels that governor Perry is in step with the majority of Americans who are in fact opposed to late-term abortion when he referred to “protecting women’s health [and] defending our smallest and most vulnerable Texans and future Texans.”

We are fighting a losing abortion war which started in 1973 in the US, but this was a significant victory.  Other conservative states will follow Texas in the wake of abortion atrocities made public in recent times, like those of Kermit Gosnell who murdered premature babies born alive during abortions.

If only the American public would know the horrors of the abortion procedure, the overwhelming majority would oppose it.

Anti-Life Influence in the Obama Administration

John Holdren is an ultra-left wing progressivist who brings satanic influence into Obama’s administration.  He is a senior advisor to the president on issues related to science and technology.

This man is a strong advocate of depopulation.

The official definition of depopulation is “to remove or reduce the population of, as by destruction or expulsion.” (dictionary.com)

His agenda is readily seen in official positions this administration has taken regarding their pro-abortion stance.  Contraception mandates, abortion coverage mandates, and intense support of Planned Parenthood are just some of the effects resulting from Holdren’s influence.

Read the following quotes by Holdren and be shocked at the level of disregard for life:

“Indeed, it has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.” — John P. Holdren, Ecoscience 1977.

“It would even be possible to require pregnant single women to marry or have abortions, perhaps as an alternative to placement for adoption, depending on the society.” — John P. Holdren, Ecoscience 1977.

“A program of sterilizing women after their second or third child, despite the relatively greater difficulty of the operation than vasectomy, might be easier to implement than trying to sterilize men.” — John P. Holdren, Ecoscience 1977.

“…no one may lawfully have more than one spouse at a time. Why should the law not be able to prevent a person from having more than two children?” — John P. Holdren, Ecoscience 1977.

Delight in Truth readers should not be surprised that the above statements can be classified as satanic.  They are satanic because they embody the spirit of death and abortion which is in stark contrast to the Spirit of Life which is one of the names for the Holy Spirit.

The Bible teaches that children are a gift from God and precious beyond description.  Children followed Jesus everywhere to the point that His disciples were annoyed by them.  But Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Matt 19:14)

And Psalm 127:3 says that “Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.”

Abortion is in every way antithetical to this position.

John Holdren holds a position that is in open rebellion against God on the issue of life, therefore it can be classified as satanic.  He talks about compulsory abortion, that is abortion that is required by law.  He endorses forced sterilization. He endorses a forced ceiling for the number of children one can have.

Christians in America, please realize that these are the people who are leading us!

The Advent of Fetal Surgery Strengthens the Pro-Life Position

The procedures and steps taken during fetal surgery provide overwhelming support to the Pro-Life stance.

The picture above shows an incision in a pregnant uterus and the hand of a 21-week fetus exhibiting the grasp reflex.  Parents of newborns know this reflex very well because the baby will squeeze tight when his/her palms are stimulated.

That is exactly what this unanesthetized fetus is doing in this picture.  

Which brings us to the next point… Why would the surgeon and anesthesiologist need to anesthetize the fetus if he/she is not a person and supposedly does not feel pain until week 24 as claimed by many experts?  

The answer is that fetal anesthesia is necessary during fetal surgery because the fetus withdraws from the painful stimuli, providing strong evidence that he/she feels pain.  It has been shown that placing needles in the fetal hepatic vein releases stress hormones in fetal blood (here).  It has also been shown that anesthesia blunts this type of response. 

If this is true, and we know it is true based on peer-reviewed literature in PubMed, imagine how much worse is the pain of tearing limbs during second trimester abortions!

How drastic is the contrast between these two scenarios: on one hand a fetal surgeon skillfully operates on a baby’s spine when still in the womb, while on the other hand an abortionist crushes the skull using a metal clamp still in the womb!  The former is considered a miracle of modern medicine, while the later is a choice by the ignorant mother and a merciless butcher. 

Delight in Truth continues to expose the idea that if the American public would have first hand information with respect to the miracles of fetal surgery, the films of babies playing in-utero, the testimony of abortion survivors, and ultimately the horrors of abortion, the American public would be overwhelmingly Pro-Life.  

But for now ignorance is bliss on this topic.  Gosnell’s trial and the exposition of his clinic have hopefully started to shake up the public slumber on this topic.

Delight in Truth will continue to champion the right to life as guaranteed by the constitutional slogan “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and ultimately by our Creator, because His Spirit is called the Spirit of Life.

Moral Failure Among Church Leadership

How is it possible that we have failures such as Gosnell’s crimes, acceptance of sexual deviancy, and close to a moral anarchy-type system in our society?

Is it possible that the Church has failed in setting the proper example?

Is it possible that Church leadership shares a good portion of the blame?

A recent study out of Pennsylvania reveals that about 20% of pastors PUBLICLY hold morally corrupt views that are not biblical.  This goes a long way toward explaining why some churches have become the world, and they no longer are a shining moral beacon.

The Pennsylvania Pastor’s Network interviewed EVANGELICAL pastors from across the state, and here are some of the shocking results:

  • Exclusive salvation only through Jesus Christ: 89% teach that view
  • The Bible is the only completely reliable source of absolute moral truth: only 78% teach that view
  • Abortion is morally wrong: only 78% teach that view
  • Same-sex marriage is morally wrong: only 82% teach that view

The questions were focused on teaching, but the thrust of the study lets me believe that perhaps the numbers are much worse with respect to these pastor’s personal beliefs.  They are more likely to hold morally unacceptable views privately but suppress them publicly.

The main issue in the above study is the issue of inerrancy and infallibility of Scripture.

The ones who do not hold to absolute moral standards are also less likely to hold the Bible as the ultimate inerrant truth.

These are wolves in sheep’s clothes who shepherd or rather corrupt the flock.

On his way final way to Jerusalem, apostle Paul called a conference with the elders of the Ephesian church, and prophesied a painful truth which has proven to apply to the universal church along the ages.

Acts 20:

29I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. 30Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. 31So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. 

How painfully true this is in our day and age.  The spirit of Rob Bell has infiltrated the evangelical church and as many as 20% of the pastors have been corrupted according to this study.

But the glass is only half empty.  Praise God for the other 80% who continue to hold to biblical truth.

May God strengthen them by the power of the Holy Spirit!

Guilty of Murder One!

In the case of abortionist Kermit Gosnell, the jury found him guilty of murdering three babies after they were born alive.

The careless disregard for human life, the sordid maneuver which snapped the cervical spine of those premee newborns, and the unapologetic attitude by Gosnell finally caught up to him.

It is amazing how long God has been patient  with this man.  The blood of thousands of unborn were crying out to God, and their cries could no longer be ignored.  The cries of the newborn whose “demise” was “ensured” by Gosnell penetrated to heaven.

The pro-life movement received an invigorating shot in the arm today.  Our legal system came through and dealt a blow to the abortion industry.  Perhaps the most powerful blow in 40 years, as the common citizen was exposed to the horror of abortion, and Gosnell was found guilty of murder.

Kermit Gosnell might be executed for his crimes.  He might pay with his life and in this life.

As horrible as this situation is, Gosnell still has a chance to repent.  He will pay for his crimes with life in prison or with execution, make no mistake about it.

But he still has the opportunity to accept the Gospel.  It is unlikely that a hardened soul like Gosnell will give in, but God can use the impending doom of his demise to make him see his depravity and his need for the Savior.
