Dr. Chris Prunean’s Message to Norway on April 16th, 2016

My name is Dr Chris Prunean. I am a Christian, a husband, a father of 4 barn and a physician, and I am here to protest the cruel actions of the Norwegian Child Protective Service and to call for the immediate reunification of the Bodnariu family and the other families whose children have been confiscated because of trivial matters.

Listen to the heartbreaking testimony given by Marius and Ruth Bodnariu to the BBC:

“I was waiting for the girls to come home from school, I was waiting for the school bus… After 10-15 minutes when they didn’t show up I started to get worried… I saw two black cars, in one of them was a child protection officer… She said I had to come to the police station for an interrogation… I was shocked and I said I was waiting for my girls… She answered that she had them… She insisted on taking the boys with her…

The second day in the evening we saw two black cars again, and I remember I said:  I think they brought the kids home… But then I saw a policeman coming out of the car… And I told Marius: I think they are going to take the baby, and there was nothing I could do…”

Ladies and gentlemen, this sounds like a scene out of communist Romania not modern Norway. This is a regular occurrence in Norway where Barnevernet removes children from good families for trivial matters without a court order and without due process.

Because of this I am here to issue a challenge to the good people of Norway, especially the Christians of Norway, the majority of whom have been indifferent and silent with respect to the human rights violations perpetrated by Barnevernet.

Fellow Norwegian Christians who believe in God and the Bible as the Word of God, you live in a country where 40% of the population identifies itself as atheist, and less than 5% attends church.

In such an arid spiritual environment you must rise up and fight injustice!

You must take a stand for the family!

Do not turn a blind eye when three-month-old Ezekiel is taken from his mom and his older siblings are secretly stolen at school in black unmarked cars!

Do not be indifferent when baby Aria is removed from her parents right after birth!

Norwegian Christians, do not remain silent when twins are confiscated from the hospital nursery after they are born under the pretext that the mom is not smart enough to care for them!

Norwegian Pentecostal leaders, why do you say that you do not want to comment on the Bodnariu case?

Why do you choose to remain silent when the Bodnariu family was harassed at  school for singing Christian songs? Is it because the church is financed by the government? Is it because Norway has a fund of 840 million USD allocated to churches?

Remember the words of Psalm 82 “Give justice to the poor and the orphan; [and] uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.”

Norway, you used to be a beacon of hope in Europe. A beacon for human rights.

In 1965 a group of Norwegian Christians ransomed pastor Richard Wurmbrand when he was dying in a Communist prison in Romania.  They bought him for the price of $10,000 (80,000 in today’s money). This was 5 times the amount normally paid for the average political prisoner. Because of that Richard Wurmbrand had the opportunity to expose the gross human rights violations happening under communism when he testified in front of the US Congress.

But now, only 50 years later we have a reversal of roles. It is Norway who violates human rights, and due process. It is Norway who destroys families based on trivial reasons.

Norwegian Christians, please hold your government accountable for what it has done to the Bodnariu family and the other families.

A Barnevernet psychological evaluation was conducted on the Bodnariu parents and the report gave them “positive and favorable” marks. Despite this, 4 Bodnariu children remain confiscated.

Now, after intense international protest, Norway has returned baby Ezekiel to the family.  But it is not right to return just one child. All children must be returned.

If Norway thinks that the family is safe for baby Ezekiel, (and we know it has always been safe), than the other 4 children must be returned immediately!

To the shame of Norway, our protests will continue and our campaign will intensify.

We will not give up, we will not tire and we will not stop until the Bodnariu children are returned home and Barnevernet is reformed!

Thank you all for coming. Thank you for bringing your children, they will never forget this event. Thank you to the media what came out to cover this protest.

Ruth Bodnariu: They Came in “Two Black Cars”

Just in case someone asks why we protest against Barnevernet, just show them this clip from BBC Magazine.

This is the reason we protest. One would think this is a scene out of 1950’s communist Romania.

Unfortunately, this is a regular occurrence in modern Norway when the CPS (Barnevernet) initiates acute emergency removal of children from good homes based on trivial matters. Without investigation and without court order.

Watch and be shocked.

Then go and protest.

BBC Magazine: Bodnariu Story

Marius and Ruth

BBC Magazine just published their coverage of the Bodnariu story and the anti-Barnevernet movement.

Here is a brief Delight in Truth analysis:

  1. The general thrust of the article is critical toward Barnevernet and somewhat sympathetic toward the cases mentioned including the Bodnariu case.
  2. Shocking details with respect to removal of children for trivial reasons are ARE mentioned, including the details of how the Bodnariu boys were taken into unmarked cars without any sort of warning.
  3. Importantly, BBC mentions an open letter of protest to the Children’s Minister, by 170 leading Norwegian professionals involved in child protection – lawyers, psychologists, social work experts – who say that Barnevernet is a “dysfunctional organisation which makes far-reaching errors of judgment with serious consequences”.
  4. They do highlight the immigrant targeting issue we have been discussing here on Delight in Truth.
  5. There is no mention of human rights violations like lack of due process, disregard for presumption of innocence, and there is no  mention of the religious issue that triggered Barnevernet to look into the Bodnariu family.

Overall it seems like an objective article but it does not go far enough to pinpoint the injustice and human rights violations against victimized families.

Delight in Truth hopes this is just the beginning. It is the highest profile international coverage the anti-Barnevernet movement has received to date and we hope for more starting on April 16th, 2016.

Senator Corlatean: Bodnariu Family Received a “Positive and Favorable” Psychologic Evaluation!

Despite this development, the Bodnariu family continues to have four out of five children confiscated!

In February 2016, after months of dragging their feet, Barnevernet performed a psychologic evaluation of the Bodnariu parents. Senator Titus Corlatean revealed on a Romanian TV program at Antena 3 that the Bernevernet psychologist who performed the evaluation was somewhat surprised that it took 3 months for this evaluation to be done. The psychologist was also surprised that such evaluation did not take place BEFORE the children were confiscated.

Moreover, the psychologist’s report indicated a healthy parental environment in the Bodnariu home. The exact words Corlatean used were “positive and favorable” in describing the content of the evaluation with respect to Marius and Ruth.

Given these details which have not been made public until now, we must ask the question: what is going on inside this sinister institution, Barnevernet? And since Barnevernet has politicians at its head, we must ask the Norwegian government: what is the hold up?

Clearly there is evidence of cracking under pressure going on inside Barnevernet.

Their own psychologists which typically side with the CPS/government have given the Bodnariu parents “positive and favorable” marks. But they only returned one out of five children!

How hardened can the government of Norway be? Delight in Truth thinks that Norway could have avoided the upcoming shame of April 16th, 2016 if they would have returned the children by now. It had the chance to do the right thing willingly.

Now Norway will be forced to do the right thing to their shame and return the children under massive international pressure.

BBC will publish a critical program against Norway on April 15th, one day before the unprecedented international day of protest against the Norwegian CPS. The name of the show is Norway: Parents Against the State.

This anti Barnevernet movement is now too much for Norway to manage. Just yesterday Norwegian TV2 covered in detail the confiscation of twins, just hours after they were born! The pretext for this acute intervention was the mother’s developmental delay (mental retardation), which turns out to be a fluke because she was cleared by a psychology evaluation.

Norwegians are opening critical eyes toward Barnevernet.

Finally.

We expect and welcome Norwegians in protesting against Barnevernet on April 16th, 2016.

“Snitch” Culture and the Child Protective Services

Interesting memories from medical school came to mind as I was pondering the idea that Scandinavian societies developed a culture of calling the Child Protective Services for nearly any trivial matter.

I had the opportunity to work with many children during my medical education at UC San Francisco and my residency at UCLA. Some of my most difficult and rewarding cases involved children.

One of my first experiences in my surgery rotation was emotionally riveting. Somehow a parent got inside the trauma room at the San Francisco General Hospital ER while their 7-year-old daughter was being resuscitated after a major motor vehicle accident. Imagine the desperation from seeing your child hooked up to life support and the people around you thinking you have gone insane.  Thankfully, the girl survived and made a full recovery.

Did we call CPS because the parents went crazy? No.

In another case that still gives me chills 12 years later, I saved a 5-year-old’s life when the tumor that the surgeon was resecting from her intestine secreted a substance called bradykinin into the blood stream which gave her an acute asthma-like attack. The following 45 min were some of the most intense of my career. There were brief periods when I could not move a single molecule of oxygen into the kid’s lungs. The renowned pediatric surgeon on the case had never seen anything like that in his 40 year career. She too recovered without sequelae.

Did anyone call CPS to assess whether the parents would be fit to care for this child after her surgery? No.

As a young student on the pediatric ward at SFGH I was assigned the case of a 18-month-old obese Samoan baby who was admitted to the hospital with RSV pneumonia. She spent two weeks in the hospital. I saw her everyday, and I made time to play with her. By the end of the two weeks she called me “da-da.” My team thought it was the most hilarious thing. Her parents were poor working class people who could not afford to take off work to stay with her in the hospital. In their mind the hospital was like a daycare facility with doctors. We rarely saw them at bedside.

Did we call CPS because they seemed involved? No.

In fact, have I ever seen a case (non-accidental injury excluded) which lead to CPS notification? No.

But there are places like Norway where calling the CPS for every little thing has become the norm. This is how we have the case of baby Aria who was confiscated immediately after birth under the pretext of preventative measures. Her parents never got the chance to actually be parents.  Not even God punishes sin before sin is committed! But Barnevernet thinks it is above God and will not even allow parents to show they can be wonderful parents.

The baby seems unhappy? He does not have enough toys? Not enough eye contact with his parents? The parents are a bit radical in their Christianity? Other reasons (here). Let’s call CPS.

How did Norway get to be like this? How did it adopt a “snitch” culture with respect to CPS?

This is the list of global locations for the upcoming anti-Barnevernet protests. All I can say is WOW. Just wow. Many of these locations will have thousands of protesters. Delight in Truth is organizing the Los Angeles protest along with leaders from over 10 churches in the greater LA area. The world is uniting behind the Bodnariu family against the great injustice done to them by Barnevernet, AND behind the other families unfairly decimated by the Norwegian CPS.

Baby Ezekiel Has Been Freed!

image

After 4.5 months of forced placement in a foster home, on the day he turned 8 months old, Ezekiel Bodnariu was released to his parents.

What sense is there in keeping the other Bodnariu children from coming home?

Pavla Jansova wrote eloquently:

“Baby Ezekiel will return home. The judge should not make such a decision, unless he(she) was completely sure, that the baby is completely safe at home. If the most vulnerable member of the family is safe, then all the other children are safe as well. From that reason it is clear, that there were no reasons for taking the children away the way CPS did and isolating the girls for months, isolating the siblings from each other and other family members and causing a huge trauma on the whole family.
I am very curious what official reason will be for returning the baby, increasing visit to the boys, but not to the girls and not returning 4 out of 5 children. There is no common sense.”

There is not much common sense with Barnevernet

Has $840 Million Bought the Norwegian Church’s Silence?

Some of the greatest mandates commanded in the Bible are to “Give justice to the poor and the orphan; [and] uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.” (Psalm 82:3 NLT)

Since the start of the Bodnariu drama we have been asking ourselves why the Norwegian churches are not stepping up to the defend the victims of Barnevernet abuse?

Why are Norwegian churches taking the side of the abuser? Why are Pentecostal leaders in Norway bragging about religious freedom when the Bodnariu family has been sanctioned at school over Christian songs and theological issues? After all, that was the spark that initiated Barnevernet probing the family to arrive at the accusation of spanking and confiscating their five children.

We may have the explosive answer in an article published today in Nettavisen.

The State has 7 billion crowns ($840 million) earmarked in a special fund for churches in Norway. The churches in Norway are subsidized by the government, and as professor Marianne H. Skanland pointed out, Barnevernet is an extension of the government.

To criticize Barnevernet is to criticize the government. To criticize the government is to bite the hand that feeds the Church, and the Church will not do that.

Therefore the Church will remain silent in the face of injustice.  The apostate Church looks the other way when a 3-month-old baby is snatched from his mother’s breast. Instead of upholding the rights of oppressed and the destitute families, it works hand-in-hand with the politicians who created the abusive system.

The Pentecostal leader in Norway Sigmund Kristoffersen said here “we will not express an opinion on, or take a position on the matter in question” regarding the Bodnariu family.  Why? Because 7 billion crowns can buy silence.

Since the Church inside Norway chose to remain silent, the body of Christ, the authentic Church of believers from across the globe is uniting to protest the injustice done to the Bodnariu family. Tens of thousands will flood the streets of European, Australian and American capitals on April 16th, 2016 to call for an end to Barnevernet secretive action and the immediate return of unfairly confiscated children.

The Church of Norway needs revival. It needs repentance. It needs to defend the oppressed, the destitute and the Barnevernet victims.

Prof. Marianne H. Skanland on the Relationship Between Government and CPS

Prof. Marianne H. Skanland was asked in an interview why is it that the Norwegian government does not accept criticism aimed at Barnevernet? Why won’t they listen to the protests thus far?

An excellent question and a revealing answer:
