If You Had an Abortion…

article_images/greg_laurie_915602483.jpg

I used to attend Harvest Crusades with Greg Laurie when I was younger, and during the altar call he would frequently mention this particular sin. Among listing other sins he would say “maybe you had an abortion… maybe you feel tremendous guilt about it…” It always struck me as a very profound statement because I was raised with a biblical worldview respecting the sanctity of life for the born and the unborn.

But Laurie’s call was profound because as depraved as the act of taking a baby’s life is, God’s grace is infinitely larger and is able to cover such a sin through repentance.

The latest statistics indicate that about 28% of American women under the age of 65 have had at least one abortion. I have met patients who have had as many as 8 abortions. It is a common procedure, and it used to be much more frequent back in the 1990s.

If you read these few words and have gone through an abortion, I would like to assure you that God can forgive you of this sin. The passing of time will not make this event disappear from history. It is always going to be there in your spiritual record and it must be dealt with. If you acknowledge that you have sinned against God, the Author of Life , if your repent of this sin and your other sins and trust Christ as your only way to heaven, you will be saved.

I invite you to trust what the Bible says about Christ:

Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.”

Jesus Christ took our sins, including the sin of abortion upon Himself to make us righteous in God’s eyes, but only if we repent and trust Him. If you do that, your case can be legally dismissed before God.

The guilt of abortion will dissipate. You will be a new person, and you will live a new life glorifying God. Christ is our only hope.

    • Great, great story. Many women feel like her, and that is one of the reasons I appreciate Greg Laurie mentioning this frequently when he makes altar calls. Good to see you back on the blogs!

  2. I had an abortion after having two children. I was unconditionally in love with a man who did not want a baby. I have regretted making that decision and will have a heavy heart for the rest of my life. That baby would have been 25 years old now, and just reading this made me cry all over again. I will not be able to forgive myself, I only hope my Lord and Savior will. BTW, that relationship did not last. I believe that baby choose us for a reason and perhaps we lost each other because we went against our God.

    • Sharon, thank you for sharing your story. Regret and repentance is part of following Jesus, so it is a normal part of the Christian experience. But I encourage you to be confident in what the Bible says. If you confess your sin to our Lord and Savior, the Bible says that He is “faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

You must believe this verse. If you put your trust in Christ fully, you will be set free from this thing hanging over you. Give it to Christ, and he is infinitely able to deal with it.

The Bible says that “the truth will set you free” (john 8:32). Jesus is the Truth and if the “if Son sets you free you will be free indeed” (john 8:36).

If you trust the Lord, you will be set free.

Believe what the Bible says and and you will no longer be captive to these thoughts. In return, give glory to God for saving you.

  3. Did you literally just compare abortion to the Holocaust? Are you aware that -in 16 civilized countries – you would be violating the law against trivializing the holocaust? Further – you need to cite your sources. Where and when did this happen? Late term abortion like the one depicted is clearly illegal in the U.S… Are you trying to spread propaganda indicating that planned parenthood is routinely ignoring abortion legislation?!

    • 1. In the other article, yes, I did compare the holocaust of abortion to the the Jewish holocaust. The abortion holocaust being approx 10x larger by the numbers in the US since 1973. No one is trivializing anything here, in fact it is a most serious matter! Babies with beating hearts are sucked out of their mother’s uterus, some actually hunted with the suction canula under ultrasound guidance! The baby struggles and bounces around the amniotic fluid while the abortionist targets her!!

You’re asking when this happened? Wow. Turn on the news. Look at wikipedia and see the nearly 60 mil abortions documented since Roe V Wade

      2. Legality of late term abortions- The hospital I worked in regularly perfomed LATE second trimester abortions until very recently. Some states have certain restrictions on late-term abortions, but it clearly shows your ignorance on the subject when you wrote “Late term abortion like the one depicted is clearly illegal in the U.S…”

What is so clear about it? How is it clearly illegal?

You also do not seem to be aware of a practice to skirt some state imposed limits where the 20-25 wk fetus is killed (via laminaria insertion) two days before the actual evacuation in states like California. The procedure then becomes a Dilation and Evacuation of a fetal demise. That is how it flies under the radar. I have observed numerous such procedures. They are not illegal based on the technicality of the diagnosis given when the patient is admited: fetal demise.

Here are some stats for you since you believe late term abortions are illegal and imply they do not occur
