The Bible is not a science book but it contains TRUTH. And yes, it contains stunningly precise guidelines and statements based on scientific facts which have been discovered only in the recent past.
In Genesis 17:12 God instituted circumcision on day 8 of life. Why day 8? Why not day one? It turns out a critical physiologic development happens between day 2 and day 9 of life with respect to platelet function and clotting. A leading pediatric hematology book describes the phenomenon of platelet hyporesponsiveness which spontaneously resolves by day 8 of life! It takes about a week before these circulating cellular fragments called platelets develop their full “stickiness” and are able to help prevent hemorrhage during circumcision. It is more than a mere coincidence that God would command Abraham to perform this ritual when platelet function reaches physiologic maturity.
Before humans understood the concept of a solar system with the Sun found at the center and the Earth rotating on its axis around the sun, Jesus knew this all too well. The Earth’s 24 hr rotation and exposure to the Sun is responsible for the simultaneous presence of night and day on opposite sides of the planet. Luke 17:34–36 tells us that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field. This is a clear indication of a revolving earth, with day and night present on the planet at the same time! People had no concept of such phenomenon back then!
The prophet Isaiah also receives revelation from God that the earth is round: “It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth” (Isaiah 40:22). This is not a reference to a flat disk, as some skeptics maintain, but to a sphere. The Hebrew word used here literally means circle or circuit. Secular man discovered this many years later. It was in fact Scriptures that inspired Christopher Columbus to sail around the world.
In a written statement from Columbus’ own hand, he testified that it was from reading the book of Isaiah that he discovered that the world is round. He wrote (from his diary, in reference to his discovery of “the New World”): “It was the Lord who put it into my mind. I could feel His hand upon me … there is no question the inspiration was from the Holy Spirit because He comforted me with rays of marvelous illumination from the Holy Scriptures.”

Nice. Clotting factors, vitamin K and prothrombin, reach their highest level at day 8 of life, excellent surgical conditions. Also numbers 19:18, introduction of Hyssop as a powerful antiseptic.
I’m pretty sure the platelet issue is the most critical because you’re dealing with mucosal and superficial bleeding as opposed to deep or joint bleeding which requires mature clotting factors.

Besides all these neat scientific and medical facts, I also love how archaeological finds also help substantiate Biblical history. The sad part is that no matter how much evidence comes to light, those with hardened hearts still refuse to believe in God and the Bible.
And also historical, extra-biblical accounts about Jesus! There are quite a few of those now compiled from different historians from that era. Science and humanities are catching up to the Bible in some respect.
Absolutely! One such historian was a Jewish one by the name of Flavius Josephus. Some of his books include references to Jesus as well as John the Baptist.

I’m a little late in reading this article. I’m curious on the point regarding Columbus because it was my understanding that common belief in a flat Earth was actually a myth, perpetuated by Washington Irving (yep, the inventor of the headless horseman). This, of course doesn’t change the fact that the Bible does indicate the Earth is a sphere.
I have thus far found this author to be accurate in his research and citation (although I admittedly have not specifically researched this article). You may find it interesting.

Thank you for the correction. After some research it is clear that Christian education in the Middle Ages taught the sphericity of the earth. I made a small change in the article removing the reference to the flat earth belief at the time of Columbus.
It was the OT societies that believed the flat earth idea, but even then Scripture and prophetic writing documented that the earth was round (multiple references as pointed out in the link above)

Thanks for looking into it further. I thought, until recently, that the flat-earth was a belief propogated by the church. I was surprised to hear otherwise, so I was curious what your research might reveal.
It’s kind of like the first time you hear about the real circumstances of Galileo being placed under house arrest.
Even the current president recently commented on people being afraid that Columbus would fall off the edge of the earth.

TRUTH AND AUTHORITY?
Where should Christians look for God’s authoritative truth? Should it be the Bible? Should it be the church of your choice or the church you belong to by chance?
The Bible was completed in 95 A.D. when the apostle John wrote Revelation. Who wrote the Bible? Was it God or was it the church?
John 14:24-26 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent me. (THE WORDS JESUS SPOKE WERE FROM GOD THE FATHER) 25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all the I said to you.
The words of Jesus were from God the Father and He said that The Father would send the apostles the Holy Spirit so they could remember all that He said. The words of the apostles were God’s word, their words were Scripture, their words were the Bible.
In, John 14:24-26, Jesus was not talking to the Pope, John Calvin, Martin Luther, Billy Graham, Joesph Smith Jr, Mary Baker Eddy, cardinals, bishops, elders, so-called modern day apostles, preachers, pastors, nor any one claiming to speak for God. If the church or theses men as individuals, were speaking for God by new revelation, then, we would have added books to the Bible. There would the books of the Popes, the book of John Calvin, the book of Billy Graham, the books of elders, the books of churches, the book of Joesph Smith Jr. etc.
THE BIBLE IS THE AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH.
THE CHURCH HAS NOT BEEN GIVEN THE AUTHORITY TO CHANGE OR OVERRULE THE AUTHORITY OF THE BIBLE. THE CHURCH CANNOT ADD TO OR TAKE AWAY FROM SCRIPTURE!
